Saina Nehwal bags Khel Ratna Award after grabbing World No. 2 rank

Delhi, India: Saina Nehwal, the number 2 ranked Indian shuttler bagged prestigious Khel Ratna Award of 2010. She has earlier been awarded with Arjuna Award in 2009 and Padma Shri in january 2010.

She edged out wrestler Ramesh Kumar and shooter Gagan Narang. Both of them have won World Championship medal. Ramesh Kumar has won freestyle bronze at Herning, Denmark in 2009, the second wrestler to win the medal after Vishambhar Singh, who won a silver in freestyle. Gagan Narang won the bronze at 2010 World Championship in Munich, Germany becoming the first Indian to qualify to 2010 London Olympics.

Besides her illustrious profile of winning many international championships, she has also became the first Indian woman to reach the semifinals of the All England and Asian championships.
