Hariom Singh gets India 1st Olympics Entry in 50m rifle prone

Munich, Germany: Hariom Singh, the first time member of Indian shooting contingent, created history by bagging a place for the London Olympics 2012. This is the first time an Indian participant will participate in 50m rifle prone at Olympics.

Hariom Singh belonging to the Army Marksman Unit (AMU) finished sixth in his first World Shooting Championship. Despite failing to finish on the podium he grabbed one of the five berths on grab for Olympics in the 50m rifle prone event. Since, the player finishing 4th has already got an Olympic berth, despite finishing 6th Hariom Singh grabbed the berth. In the finals, he finished with 700.9 (298 + 102.9) points.

He is the 2nd Indian to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. Gagan Narang has earlier become the first Indian to book a berth in 2012 Olympics by taking a bronze in the 10m air rifle event. Narang finished a forgettable 62nd in the 50m rifle prone event.
