RCB Vs DC: Can it be Still Even Contest!!

Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore started as the two strongest teams of the Indian Premier League in 2008. But, they failed dramatically. Later they proved their strength by finishing in top 4 in last two editions. Where wil they reach now in 2011 with teams revamped and new captains at helm!!

History
Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore are the teams that can be called as partners. For the last three editions they have remained together. In 2008, when DC gave their worst performance to reach the bottom of the table, RCB followed them and stayed just above them in the table with 2 more wins than DC. Ironically RCB defeated DC in both their matches of inaugral edition. In 2009 both finished as top two teams, while in 2010 both finished as number 3 and number 4 teams.

2011 Performances
RCB has been the better side with one win and one loss. They won against newcomers Kochi Tuskers Kerala and were thumped by Mumbai Indians.
DC with two losses appear the weakest side of the tournament, alongwith Delhi Daredevils. They were thumped by old rivals Rajasthan Royals, while despite a fight they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders too.

IPL Performances

In 2008 both finished at the bottom of the table, with RCB finishing above DC. RCB won 4 matches and Lost 10, while DC could win just 2 and lost 12.
In 2009, DC won the tournament and RCB finished 2nd best. Both recorded 9 wins and 7 losses.
In 2010, both lost in the semifinal and RCB won the 3rd place playoff. Overall, again both won and lost 8 games each.

Overall Performances
Due to the poorer show of DC in 2008, RCB has won 21 and Lost 25, as compared to DC’s 19 Wins and 27 Losses in last three editions.

Current Hopes
Deccan Chargers is at the bottom of the group and they have nothing to lose from here, whereas Royal Challengers look strong to challenge other strong teams of IPL. DC have looked below average. With their main rival they have the chance to start their victory campaign of 2011.

RCB on the other hand, after first two matches, look settled and can post an easy victory over DC. Playing at home has become a pain for DC. Their fans would hope that they break the home jinx and start winning now.

Key Battles
Zaheer Khan and Vettori vs DC top order
Vettori, with captaincy, has performed very economically. If he makes a hattrick of economic bowling and add a couple of wickets DC would be in trouble. Zaheer has the knack of nailing top order. If DC batsmen can overcome Zaheer and Vettori, they have half the battle won.

Dilshan and AB de Villiers Vs Steyn
This is the toughest battle for DC bowlers. Dishan and AB de Villiers are in the form of their life, whereas DC bowlers including Steyn are stil unable to adjust to IPL. Exceptional performance from DC bowlers is required to stop RCB slaughter. This battle can be the match winner. Steyn’s performance against his old team would be worth a watch.
