Virender Sehwag is one of the most devastating batsmen in international arena. His performances has mostly resulted into victories for India and his other teams. When his performance sank, DD went down, but when he shines DD goes up. So DD=Sehwag saying was not wrong at all. Otherwise why should DD have lost all the three matches of IPL 2013? Now, his IPL career is probably the only place where he can show his magic, unless there is a miracle for him to get a recall for Indian team. Check his record for the first 6 editions of IPL.

As a bowler just bowled 1 over that costed 25 runs without a wicket. He again took 3 catches.
Again he was among the runs scoring 356 runs in 14 innings with 75 as highest score, hitting 3 half-centuries with the help of 47 boundaries and 14 sixes. The strike rate was 163.30.

With 495 runs in 16 matches he was way ahead of his teammates. Pietersen provided good help but had to leave half-way. Sehwag was again the leader of DDs march. He hit 5 half-centuries with 57 boundaries and 19 sixes, a duck and once remained unbeaten. Unbeaten 87 was his best.
He was the 5th highest run scorer of the tournament.
Sehwag played 13 matches and scored 295 runs with only half-century unbeaten 95 being the highest. His strike rate 126.60 was just .33 below DDs top scorer Warner. He was the third highest scorer of the team behind Warner (16 matches) and Mahela (15 matches). He also bowled 1 overs and gave 9 runs.
Overall IPL performances
Overall 2172 runs in 79 innings of last 6 editions make him the 9th highest scorer of IPL. He has a century and 15 half-centuries against his name. 270 boundaries and 85 sixes take his Strike rate to staggering 160.54. His strike rate is the best in IPL, even better than Gayle’s (160.20 in 59 matches).
He has also taken 6 wickets.
DD’s dependence on Sehwag
The player who is the highest run scorer of DD has not got a high average. Unfortunately, he never got support from other players in the team, and Delhi’s fate mostly depended on how good Sehwag played in a match.
Can he be Among the Best in IPL!!
Considering the performances of other famous players such as Gayle, Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Gilchrist, Hayden (Ex-CSK), Raina, AB de Villiers, Kallis and many more Sehwag appears to have more grey areas in IPL Twenty20 format. While with other players, they have the cushion of some other batsmen performing and taking their team to peak, unfortunately with DD, with the exception of 2009 when Dilshan and AB de Villiers, and then Pietersen in 2011 for half-tournament, took over the main scorers responsibility, DD’s performance has always been about Sehwag.
Sehwag must fire, now for Kings XI Punjab, his new team. Fortunately, in Kings XI the pressure is not on him as therer are other firebrands too.
