Chennai Super Kings have won the second IPL not by fluke. They have the best team to talk business. The team is full of star performers. The Captain is shrewd strategist. The team plays aggressive cricket, remains confident in close matches and wins without sledging and indiscipline. Was not that the trademark of feared West Indies of 70s era!!
The Australians were the champions ruling Cricket arena for almost more than a decade. The West Indies did the same in 70s and early 80s. Both won, but basic difference was their attitude towards opponent. West Indies played aggressive game but respected the opponents. Australians believed in defeating the opponents with verbal torture too. Chennai Super Kings with 2 titles and 4 consecutive knockout entry fall in the same feared team category. But winning the Fairplay award thrice in 4 editions brings them closer to the West-Indies rules Cricket era than the Australian era.
CSK has the smiling assasin Dhoni at helm. It has match winners in almost each player. Even in 2011 they had 7 players earning Player of the match award. None of them got the Orange Cap, Purple Cap or the Best Karbon Kamaal Catch winner award. Yet as a team all shared success together. Even on-field despite having different nationality and stature all surfaced as one cohesive team.
Opponents can never breathe easy when CSK is batting, as Morkel the lethal six hitter comes at number 8. Dwayn Bravo, one of the best allrounders, can not boast of his performance affecting the downfall of team. He just contributes, does not dominate the team. Even in bowling, the likes of Ashwin, Morkel, Bollinger, Southee and Randiv can not expect their team to be solely dependent on them, as the likes of Jakati, Bravo, Kulasekara and part-timers Raina and others are also ready to do justice to the balls they bowl.
Even in the team full of stars, there is no superstar other than the captain. But the superstar captain is not falunting. He is in fact, happy to smile behind the stumps and let his boys do the talking either with ball or with bat. This is what can be called a truly champion team.
