Ind Vs WI 4th ODI Review: Determined WI trounce India

After losing the series in 3 straight matches, West Indies finally won the 4th ODI against India. Although India made three changes but the batting line-up almost had the same players. West Indies played as a unit, while most of the Indians fell to T20 shots and invited defeat. In the end West Indies won by a huge margin of 103 runs.

4th ODI Scorecard & Match Facts

Toss and Match
The match started in the same way as first three had. Raina won the toss for the third consecutive time and elected to field. West Indies were set to bat first for 4th consecutive time in ODI series. While West Indies dropped Bishoo for Martin and Darren Bravo came, Indians made three changes giving Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Manoj Tiwary a game to play.

Dhawan deservinigly lost his place. If he is struggling against West Indies, he knows for sure where his place lies in Indian Cricket. Ishant Sharma replaced successful Munaf. The big question in everyone’s mind is if Ishant has been given too many chances!! Ashwin, the future star of India, came in place of vice-captain Harbhajan Singh.

Simmons, Pollard and Baugh Take WI to Highest Total of Series
West Indies again had a poor start losing first 5 wickets for just 103 runs. Only Simmons from top order could hold his end. He scored a brilliant half-century. As he got out, Pollard and Baugh joined hands to score the second biggest partnership of current ODI series. Pollard went on to score fourth highest score of the series, and his much needed fifty too. In the company of Baugh, he took West Indies to a healthy total. But twin strike by Praveen Kumar on consecutive balls sent both to pavillion and West Indies set a competitive target of 250 runs for India.

Indian T20 Style Reply
Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh had saved India in last match despite the wayward batting by others. But this match had no Harbhajan. Rohit Sharma again had to fight the lone battle. But his 39 was not enough. Parthiv Patel again could not convert his start to a good innning. Manoj Tiwary, as an opener, had no clue which way the ball was coming from. Kohli, Raina and Yusuf Pathan went to T20 shot that could have been saved for the later part of the match. After Rohit’s wicket, it was too much to ask the tailenders to score remaining 126 runs. India lost convincingly in the end losing all wickets.

Raina and Pathan!!
Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan’s poor batting performance is putting more pressure on others. In the team of second string players, the two ‘seniors’ were expected to be the key batsmen. Instead both are struggling. Worse than that playing irresponsible shots to get out, without adding much to the scorecard. Raina has managed only 82 runs in 4 innings while Yusuf Pathan has not even reached 15 runs in 4 innings.

WI repeating Pakistan Series
Even against Pakistan after losing first three matches and the series they started winning. If 4th ODI can be considered as an example, they are set to repeat the feat against India too. With one more ODI left, they look set to finish the series with 2-3 loss, as they did against Pakistan.
