Dhoni won the toss and sent England to bat. Rain ruled the day as forecasted and England were 127/2 at stumps on first day. On 2nd day England declared at 474/8 and India were 11/0. On 3rd day India avoided follow on scoring 286 runs. England were 5/0 at stumps. As expected England made merry in the end and scored 269/6. While chasing the target of 458 runs India were 80/1 at stumps on Day 4. On the final day Indian batsmen were bowled out for 269 runs and England won by a huge margin of 196 runs. Pietersen was declared Player of the match.
