The much awaited India versus England 2011 series started with the historical 100th test between them at Lord’s. But, the Lord came to bless 2000th test in Cricket history. Zaheer and Trott shine on Rain ruled first day.
Dhoni Wins The Toss – Finally
Dhoni is known to lose tosses, but win matches. Yet going in the first test of the decisive series against England at the cruel Lord’s ground, even Dhoni would have prayed hard for the toss. Finally the coin turned in his favor and Indian camp was relieved at the decision of not batting first in testing conditions. England was sent to bat.
Zaheer Rocks England
Zaheer Khan is dubbed as the key bowler of the series. Not without reason. He grabbed both the wickets that fell in the 46.2 overs bowled during the day. First to go was in-form Cook and then his prey Strauss. The English captain lost his wicket to Zaheer for the 6th time in 11 meetings.
Trott Gains Crucial Brownie Points for England
England scored 127/2 at stumps. The 46.2 overs tested their batsmen. Nervousness was visible. But Trott scored undefeated 58 and England would feel relieved looking at the scorecard.
Big Blow for India!!
After Sehwag’s unavailability due to injury, India hoped that Zaheer remains available as Indian bowling depends on him. But towards the end of the game he was seen limping off the ground, unable to complete his over. Indians would do their best to get Zaheer fit for the game next day. England would be smiling at the thought of milking Zaheer-less Indian attack and scoring big in the first innings.
Harbhajan’s first ball of the day went to slip. But Rahul Dravid failed to reach the ball in time. It could have been a memorable start for Harbhajan who would like to prove a point to all by playing major role in Indian attack. But after that miss Harbhajan could not produce another chance.
We hope the miss does not let to another poor show by Harbhajan in the long series. India wants him to perform for better result.
