India Vs England 1963-64 Series: First Series Without Result

1963-64 Series saw 5-Test series ending without any result. For the first time none of the 5-tests produced a result. Opener wicketkeeper Kunderan emerged as the best batsman of the series, while Titmus was the pick of the bowlers.

India’s first Series win of 1961-62 against England was followed by a cautious approach from England and resulted in the second draw series between India and England.

Batsmen
Indian batsmen dominated the series. Kunderan with 525 runs scored with the help of 2 centuries and a half-century was the highest scorer of the series. Dilip Sardesai (449) and Jaisimha (446) were other scorers who crossed 400-mark. Captain Pataudi Jnr. (308) scored the only double century of the series, while Borde (242), Vijay Manjrekar (225) and Durani (214) were also among the runs. Even Hanumant Singh who played only two innings impressed with a century aggregating 128 runs.

Comparatively English batsmen did not flourish much in the absence of many famous names. Opener Bolus (389), capatain opener M Smith (306) and Cowdrey (309) were the prominent scoreres besides 211 by wicketkeeper Parks and 80 runs in the only inning played by Barrington.

Bowlers
English bowlers were more successful scalping 63 wickets in the series. Titmus with 27 wickets that included two 5-wicket haul was the leading bowler of the series. J Price grabbed 14 and Wilson took 9 wickets too, besides 6 wickets effort each by Knight and Mortimore and 5-wicket each by Larter and Parfitt. Parks also earned a wicket in the series.

Indian bowlers managed only 54 wickets. Durani and Chandrasekhar led the pack with 10-wickets each, Borde and Nadkarni had 9 wickets each. Kripal Singh (6), R Desai (4) and Jaisimha (3) were other wicket-takers. Even Gupte, Pataudi Jnr. and Ranjane grabbed a wicket each.

Captains
Both captains scored almost same runs. Pataudi Junior sored 308 runs with a double century, while M Smith scorred 306 runs with two half-centuries.

Wicketkeepers
Kunderan was leading run scorer of the series with 525 runs. Parks and Binks were the wicketkeepers from English side. Parks managed to scored only 211 runs.

Allrounders
Nadkarni, Borde and Durani were the best allrounders of the series. Nadkarni scored 294 runs with a century and a half-century, and grabbed 9 wickets. Borde scored 242 runs with two half-centuries and grabbed 9 wickets that included the only 5-wkt haul by Indian bowler in the series. Durani grabbed 10 wickets and scored 214 runs with two half-centuries.
