CL T20 Match 20: Record Chase Gets RCB in Semis, 2nd time

Royal Challengers Bangalore started winning after losing first two matches. Century by Harris saw South Australia scoring 214/2, the highest total of 2011 tournament. But they started smiling too early. RCB chased with self-belief. Tait’s 5-wkt haul did try dousing the burning desire of Challengers, but Karthik’s last ball six sealed one of the most famous wins in Twenty20 history, setting semifinal date with Mumbai Indians.

The match turned in many phases. First the century by Harris and his 114 runs 2nd wicket partnership with Ferguson who scored 43 balls 70 runs. In the last 5 overs South Australia scored 86 runs.

Gayle and Dilshan started the record chase of 215 runs with good rate. But Gayle’s dismissal helped SA smile. But the quickfire knock of 36-ball 70 runs by Virat Kohli and 100-run partnership in 9 overs with Dilshan turned the game in RCBs favor brining asking rate to only 9 runs per over.

The cruel 19th over of the tournament finally helped bowling team as Shaun Tait grabbed 3 wickets that included prized Dilshan’s wicket. Tait had his first 5-wicket haul.

Needing 14 runs in the last over, RCB lost another wicket but wicketkeeper Arun Karthik played the shot of his life when he hit required 6 runs on the last ball of Christian to seal one of the most memorable win ever in Twenty20 history.
