India vs England at Kotla: 1-1

India has played England twice at Kotla, and both have shared the honors winning a match each. Both matches saw close contest and the team batting first won comfortably. The third match between them and the second of the 2011 ODI series in India is their first Day/Night match at Kotla. With dew factor playing major role, chasing a total may suit better than defending a total, unlike the first two day matches.

History of Ind-Eng at Kotla
Both played first in 2002 and then againt met in 2006 during the bilateral ODI series. Nasser Hussain led England won by 2 runs in 2002 after scoring 271 riding on the century by opener Nick Knight and 5-wicket haul by Giles who ensured India’s loss despite Captain Ganguly’s valian 74 run. Sehwag (42), Kaif (46) and Agarkar (36*) put up a contest. But failure of Tendulkar (18), Dinesh Mongia (20) and wicketkeeper Ratra (10) costed India the match. India could manage only 269/8.

In 2006, under Dravid India could set a small total of 203. Harbhajan Singh (37) and Dravid (34) were the prominent scorers. Gambhir (25), Raina (24), Dhoni (20), Irfan Pathan (28) could not support much, while Sehwag (7), Yuvraj (1) and Kaif (4) failed. Pacer Kabit Ali of England grabbed 4/45 while Anderson took 2/41.
India went on to win by 39 runs restricting England to 164 runs with 5/32 from Harbhajan and 3/21 by Irfan Pathan. Pietersen (46) and captain Flintoff (41) tried to build the inning. But failure of Strauss (0), Owais (4), Collingwood (8), Wicketkeeper Jones (0) led to English failure.
