Electing to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad showed the intention of scoring quick. But Ashrith Reddy (12 runs, 11 balls, 2 boundaries) appeared too much in hurry and RP Singh had him caught by Vinay Kumar on the first ball of 3rd over. Parthiv Patel’s (20 runs, 19 balls, 2 boundaries) struggle continued as he was bowled by Muralithran in 8t over. Sangakkara continued bit slow and was joined by White. As Captain Sanga (23 runs, 24 balls, 2 boundaries) struggle at crease was ended by Kartik in 11th over, Perera joined White. Both added 80 runs in 7.2 overs when Perera (40 runs, 23 balls, 1 boundary, 4 sixes) was bowled by RP Singh. Next over saw Vinay Kumar sending White (52 runs, 34 balls, 3 boundaries, 3 sixes). RCBs chase of 162 runs
Due to the wicket of Gayle in his only over in the last match Vihari was promoted to open the bowling. He could bowl only the last ball to Gayle who dabbed it for a single. Before that Mayank Agarwal milked him for 11 runs. Dashing start. Mayank Agarwal continued the firework hitting Ishant for a six and boundary too in 5th over. But Perera’s first ball in 6th over saw Agarwal (29 runs, 20 balls, 3 boundaries, 2 sixes) packed off. Captain Kohli arrived and showed his aggressive intent right away.
Steyn vs Gayle
Steyn started the 2nd over. First ball was smashed by Gayle for boundary, and then he had 5 dot balls. They again met in 4th over. Gayle faced the first and last delivery. First one was easy single, last one was a dot ball. Final tally: 8 balls faced, 5 runs, 6 dot balls. Gayle (13 runs, 15 balls, 2 boundaries) was the second wicket to fall as he went in the 7th over caugh behind on the bowling of Ishant Sharma. Score read 47/2.
AB de Villiers played the first innings of 2013 edition, joined Kohli and by the time he departed in 12th over AB (15 runs, 15 balls, 1 six) they had added 49 runs. Henriques joined Kohli who was acting as a single-man terminator. He did not spare anyone but Steyn. They added 66 runs in 5.4 runs with Henriques unbeaten on 7 runs of 9 balls with a boundary, while Kohli racing to 93 runs (47 balls, 11 boundaries, 4 sixes) taking his team to not only a win but also a good improvement in Net Run Rate. He did get the Orange Cap too but only for few hours as Karthik raced ahead in next match between MI and DD.
