CSK playing MI for the playoff at Kotla is the third instance in IPL history when both have met during Playoffs. In the current edition like 2010 MI has won both the league stage matches. In 2012 they shared a win each at group stage. But the end result was similar in both editions as CSK defeated them to end MIs dream of being IPL champions. In 2013, they can repeat the 2011 feat of RCB meeting CSK on four occasions. CSK had the last laugh even though. Again the loser would get another chance to stake claim for final, but the big question is can MI be different in this edition where they are playing their fourth consecutive Playoff!!
History of Playoffs between CSK and MI
Both teams are equally strong, have the best two overall records in IPL but Playoff is the only part of IPL where CSK has huge edge over MI. CSK has reached all the 6 semifinals, 4 finals and won 2 of them. MI has reached their 4th consecutive Playoffs, reached a final too where they could not breach the CSK wall.
In 2010, CSK defeated MI by 22 runs in the final at Wankhede.
In 2012, CSK eliminated MI by 38 runs in the Eliminator.
