IBL Results Day 3: Pune Pistons on Top, Delhi Smashers Register win

Two ties were played on Day 3 of the tournament. In the first tie Delhi Smashers defeated Hyderabad Hotshots, while Pune Pistons won their second consecutive match of the tournament, as captain Ashwini Ponappa again won the decisive mixed doubles to take them to top. Lucknow will host one more tie tomorrow.

Delhi Smashers had lost their first game against Pune Pistons while Hyderabad Hotshots had won their first game against Banga Beats. Today Smashers opened their account as Saina Nehwal’s team failed. Captain Jwala Gutta’s decision to let Prajakta Sawant replace herself in Mixed Doubles helped the cause as Prajakta Sawant was declared Player of the tie for her winning effort.

    Men’s Doubles: Delhi Smashers’ Tan Boon Heong/Koo Kien Keat beat Hyderabad Hotshots’ Shem/Tarun Kona 21-14, 21-20.
    Men’s Singles: Delhi Smashers’ Daren Liew beats Hyderabad Hotshots’ Taufik Hidayat 21-10 21-7.
    Mixed Doubles: Delhi Smashers’ V.Diju/Prajakta Sawant beat Hyderabad Hotshots Shem Goh/Pradnya Gadre 21-20 21-15.

Pune Pistons def Mumbai Masters 3-2
Both had won their first matches at Delhi. For the fifth consecutive game Mixed doubles became the decider for tie, and for the second consecutive tie captain Ashwini Ponappa took her team to victory, and Pistons reach top of the Points Table. Vladimir Ivanov was declared Player of the tie for the second consecutive tie.
