While Finn earned a hattrick, McCullum, Anderson and Maxwell destroyed opposition, Marsh got a 5-wicket haul, the biggest show stealer performances came from Steven Smith and James Taylor. ICC apologized to English Cricket team for the last wicket of Anderson. It says the game should not have ended there. But how good is an apology if it would have been match decisive delivery!! ICC needs to act immediately, instead of waiting.
Smith grabbed an unbelievable catch performing a Superman act. It was the 5th wicket of Mitch Marsh. But it was actually the wicket of Smith. Nobody though that the hard hit ball by Butler could be even touched. But Smith flew and grabbed it.
James Taylor reached 98 with the performance of the day hardly respecting the Australian bowlers. What happened in the end was unbelievable. He was batting with Anderson for the last wicket needing 2 runs for his century. English win was nowhere in sight. He was given leg before wicket but he thought his bat touched the ball and went for review.
Dramatically, his belief was wrong, then umpire’s decision was also wrong as ball was going outside the leg stump. He was not out. But there was no relief as the 10th wicket fell on the same ball.
Australians, the team whose players never say over unless its actually over showed why. Other teams would have started celebrating after gettting LBW decision. But Australian fielder made sure they try for run out and had a direct hit at wicket. Anderson’s bat was in air. As a result, although Taylor’s out was saved by review, but the same review saw Anderson was run out and gave him out.
There was confusion, but in the end for England that was the last ball of innings and James Taylor remained unbeaten on well made 98 runs.
