PV Sindhu proved her mettle for the big stage as she became second Indian Woman after Saina Nehwal to win a Super Series title in Singles event. After being knocked out in first two rounds of first two tournaments since her return after earning Silver medal at Rio Olympics, Sindhu defeated Sun Yu of China as for the first time in the 26 tournament history of China Open, none of the Chinese won any events. Sindhu is the third Indian to win China Open after Srikanth and Saina.
Despite surviving a tough semifinal against her Korean opponent, Sindhu was physically and mentally ready for another battle as she faced Sun Yu, who had 3-2 career meet edge over her before this match.
Except Men’s Doubles, every event had chinese in the final, but all failed to lift the title as Jorgensen won the Men’s Singles, while two titles went to Indonesia and one to Korea.
