At the first day of All England Open 2017, in the qualifiers none of the Indians could qualify for the Main Round, starting tomorrow. Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy cleared the first big hurdle of Qualification stage but failed at the second hurdle despite a tough fight. In Men’s Singles, Sameer Verma and Sourabh lost their respective qualification matches. The 3S of Saina, Sindhu and Srikanth lead the Indian contingent’s challenge starting tomorrow as India eyes third England Open title.
Women’s Doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy defeated the English pair 21-17 16-21 24-22 in 1 hour 5 minutes in the first match of qualification.
But, they failed to enter the Main Draw as they lost the second qualification match to 4th seeds Nadia/Saninu 15-21 21-18 18-21 in 56 minutes.
Among other Indian qualifiers, Sourabh Verma lost to 4th seed Ginting 21-10 14-21 22-20 despite a tough fight of 50 minutes.
Seeded third in qualification, Sameer Verma lost to unseeded Sakai Kazumasa (Japan) 21-17 21-12 in 41 minutes
