Indian squad of Men’s and Women’s Handball team participate in the Sports that is the first one to start at Asian Games 2018. While the Asian Games 2018 opening ceremony is on Aug 18, four Sports start before. While Football and Basketball – 5x start on Aug 14, Handball, Water Polo starts on Aug 16, the first Sports to start in Asian Games 2018 is Handball. Both the teams will play the preliminary round from Aug 13. Indian Women Handball team is playing in 4th Asian Games.
Rules for Men: 16 teams have been divided into four Groups in Preliminary Round. Teams finishing at bottom will move to Classification Round where all 5 teams will play for ranking. Top two teams of each group will qualify for Main Round, which has two groups. The top two teams from each Main Group will qualify for the semifinals. Indian Women are ranked 8th, while Malaysia and North Korea are not ranked.

Indian Women Handball team is playing in 4th Asian Games. They finished 8th in 2006, 2010 and 2014. The Queen of South Asia are ranked 8th in Asia. They have won 2016 South Asian Games and all 4 South Asian Championship. At Asiam Women’s Handball Championship, they have finished 7th in 1993, 6th in 2000, 8th in 2008 and 2012, 7th in 2015.
Rules for Women: 10 teams are divided into two groups at Preliminary round. Top two of each group qualifies for semifinals. Bottom team of both group will play for 9th place while third and fourth teams of both groups will play for classification matches of 5-8th place.
