IPL 2013 Match 30: Oldie Hussey Helps Super Kings Win a Thriller vs Royals

Nobody expected Chennai pitch to produce high scoring runs. But with Rajasthan Royals electing to bat the match became a repeat of yesterday’s Kings XI chase of Warriors as exact high score was chased now by Chennai Super Kings at home in the last over of the match. Rajasthan Royals came close to the expected win, but Hussey foiled their bowling plan. Watson scored the first century of IPL 2013, another Australian Faulkner bowled his heart out on a batting pitch, but oldie Michael Hussey appeared the winner and took his side home in a thriller to the top of the Points Table.

Royals Bat
Electing to bat Rajasthan Royals got a boost when Shane Watson played a long quick innings. His century (101 runs, 61 balls, 6 boundaries, 6 sixes) took them to 185/4. Rahane (15-ball 16 runs), Yagnik (7 runs), Dravid (6 runs) failed but Stuart Binny (22-ball 36 runs, 3 boundaries, 1 six) provided the helping hand.

For CSK Ashwin with 20/2 stood out. Others perished as Mohit Sharma (19/0 in 2 overs), Holder (30/0), Morris (32/0) and Jadeja (45/0) were hit badly. Bravo’s 36/2 did help them reduce the runs in the last 3 overs.

CSKs Chase of 186 runs
Kings XI had chased the same score yesterday at their home ground. Chennai Super Kings had the arsenal and team full of big hitters to achieve that. But ultimately Hussey was again their key man and IPLs highest scorer Raina came back to form at the right time. Hussey (88 runs, 51 balls, 13 boundaries and a six) added 90 runs in 10 overs with Raina (51 runs, 35 balls, 4 boundaries and 2 sixes). Dhoni (16-ball 21 runs) provided the helping hand. While their regular finished Jadeja went on a duck, they achieved the 17 runs required in last two overs with Bravo hitting 9-ball 15 runs with a six. Morris remained unbeaten on 1 run.

Faulkner bowled his heart out with a figuof 20/3 sending Raina, Dhoni and Jadeja back. But he had not much support as other bowlers were taken to task. Dravid’s direct throw did run out Hussey, but even Watson could not save the 11 runs required in the last over. Chandila (16/1) was good but Dravid could not dare throw him the ball to complete his last over as others were getting hit all over the park. Rahul Shukla (24/0 in 2 overs), their star bowler Cooper (49/0), Trivedi (32/0 in 3 overs), Binny (20/0 in 2 overs) and Watson (21/0 in 1.5 overs) were milked by the Super Kings batsmen to achieve the high target and go to the top of the table.
