Singapore SS: Sai Praneeth and Srikanth Create Indian History in Super Series

Indian Badminton record

Despite Saina and Sindhu ruling the world, the history for India was created by Srikanth Kidambi and Sai Praneeth. With both winning their semifinals of Singapore Open Super Series, this is the first time that two Indians have reached the final of any event in a Badminton Super Series event. Even in Men’s Singles, only China, Indonesia and Denmark have achieved the feat of all-same-nation final. This is maiden Super Series finals for Sai Praneeth, while third such final for Srikanth. Now, who will win India’s 31st Super Series title?

Singapore SS 2017: Quarterfinal results

Sai Praneeth defeated Dong Keun Lee (Korea) 21-19 21-15 in 30 minutes. This was the first win of 30th seed Praneeth over the 35th seed Korean. Earlier, in 2015 Japan Open Praneeth lost to him.

29th seed Srikanth def 26th seed Anthony Ginting (Indonesia) for the second time in career. He has lost once to him at Indonesia Open 2015. Today, in the semifinals Srikanth won 21-13 21-14 in 42 minutes.

On Sunday, India will have another 31st Super Series title and 16th winner if Praneeth wins. Sai Praneeth leads Srikanth 4-1 in career meets. In 2017, this will be India’s second Super Series title after Sindhu’s India Open title.
