All England Open 2015: Saina and Srikanth Lead Indian Challenge

With the announcement of Rs 40 lakhs cash reward by Indian government for All England Championships, Indian shuttlers have more reasons to try for a semifinal finish. Saina Nehwal, Srikanth, Kashyap, Jwala Gutta/Ponnappa and Manu/Sumeeth are participating in 105th All England Championships to be the third Indian after Padukone (1980) and Gopichand (2002) to win All England Championships starting from 3rd March. Finals will be played on 8th March.

Qualification Round: March 3

    Men’s Singles: Ajay Jayaram defeated Anand Pawar to qualify for the main rounds.
    Men’s Doubles: Guru Prasad/Venkatesh Prasad lost qualifying match of Men’s Doubles to Indonesian pair of Kido and Putra.
    Men’s Doubles: Sanjeeth/Jagadish Yadav lost Men’s Doubles qualification match to Dutch pair of Arends/Maas.
    Mixed Doubles: Ashwini Ponnappa/Vladimir Ivanov retired hurt against English pair of Coles/Brown.

Matches for 1st Round: 4th March

    Men’s Singles: P Kashyap vs Chou Tien Chen (6th seed Taipei)
    Women’s Doubles: Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa vs Anscelly/Soong (USA)
    Mixed Doubles: Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy vs Biao/Hong Wei (China 7th seed)
    Women’s Singles: Saina Nehwal (3) vs Q4
    Men’s Singles: K Srikanth (4) vs Kento Momota (Japan)
