India maintained their unbeaten run at Asian Championship Trophy 2016 winning their third match after drawing against Korea and trouncing Japan in the first match. They won their 2nd match against Pakistan at Asia Champions Trophy in 6 matches. This was India’s 54th win against Pakistan in 166 matches.

The first quarter was dominated by India, but India tasted the first blood in the 2nd quarter through a field goal by Pradeep Mor in the 22nd minute.

Third quarter saw four goals, as first Pakistan scored two goals to take the lead and then Indians came from behind to get back into the lead. Pakistan scored the equalizer through field goal by Muhammad Rizwan Senior in 31st minute and then with another field goal, now from Muhammad Irfan Junior, Pakistan got into lead in 39th minute.

The 6-goal man Rupinder Pal Singh got India the equalizer through his another penalty corner conversion in 43rd minute. Within a minute in 44th minute, field goal by Ramandeep Singh saw India winning the match and jumping to the top of table ahead of the hosts Malaysia, who play against Japan in the second match of the day.

Indians managed to stay in lead in the fourth quarter and clinch 3-2 win jumping to the top of the group. India has 7 points from 3 matches with 2 wins and a draw (vs Korea).

Today was the 166th match between both the nations. Pakistan are ahead on the head-to-head count. India have Won 54, Drew 30 and Lost 82.

India have scored 321 goals while conceding 386 against Pakistan. In the Asian Champions Trophy, India have played Pakistan 6 times – they have won twice, drawn twice and lost twice.

In the last match before this one that India and Pakistan played, India won 5-1 in the 2016 Azlan Shah Tournament in April this year.
