Chennai Super Kings is the most successful team of the last three editions. The defending champion has also won the Champions League in South Africa. Besides that they have been the finalist in the first edition of 2008 where they lost to Rajasthan Royals on the last delivery of the match, and the semifinalist of second edition where Royal Challengers Bangalore knocked them out.
Besides winning matches and tournaments, they have also won the heart and hence the Kingfisher Fairplay Awards twice in three editions – 2008 and 2010. The 2009 edition Fairplay award went to Kings XI Punjab.
2008 – 9 Wins, 7 Losses
They came as one of the strongest contender and proved the claims in the end with 9 wins and only 7 losses, 3 of which came against the Champions Rajasthan Royals, against whom CSK lost the final also, after losing both the group matches.
Besides other wins, CSK won 3 games against Kings XI, and both group games against Kolkata Knights.
2009 – 8 Wins 6 Losses, 1 No Result
Won both group matches aginst Kings XI and Rajasthan Royals, and were knocked out by RCB in the semifinal.
2010 – 9 Wins 7 Losses
Played Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians thrice in their winning campaign. At Group Stage, Chargers won both the matches, but Super Kings had the final laugh in the semifinal which they won by 38 Runs.
Against Mumbai Indians in group matches, Super Kings were even with one win and one loss. In the Final, they defeated the favorite Mumbai Indians by 22 runs.
They have also played a tie with Kings XI, that they lost in the Super Over.
Overall Performance
26 wins, 20 losses and 1 No Result.
They have played the maximum matches in three editions of IPL. Overall they have played 47 matches. Against Kolkata Knight Riders their match was abandoned in 2009. They played a tie in 2010, which they lost in Super Over. But, the winning average is far greater when compared to other teams.
