Denmark Open 2017: Only 3 Indians in Round 2 for 3rd Consecutive Year, 2nd Seed Sindhu lose

Except the two singles title, Denmark Open Super Series has always been a tough road for Indians. While Saina Nehwal won the Denmark Open Super Series in 2012 being the second Indian after Prakash Padukone, who won in 1979, from the last three consecutive tournaments only 3 Indians have reached Round 2 and today was no exception as 2nd seed Sindhu was knocked out and all doubles teams were packed up. Saina, on the other hand knocked out 5th seed Carolina. With 2nd seed Sindhu and 5th seed Carolina, 4th seed Yuqi Shi and 6th seed Long Chen of China were the major upsets of Round 1.

Out of 9 matches played by Indians, only HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal managed to win. Sindhu, Sai Praneeth, Shubankar joined the 4 doubles team on the way back.

In Doubles, while yesterday Sikki Reddy / Pranaav Chopra lost Round 1, today was no different for Doubles teams. Sikki Reddy lost a tough 3-set battle in Women’s Doubles playing for 68 minutes, while Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksaira lost both their respective doubles matches. Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy also failed to survive the tough Danish test.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj reached the main round after winning two qualifying rounds yesterday where Kashyap failed to qualify.
