FIFA World Cup 2014: Argentina and Iran Can Knock Nigeria Out

Group F concludes its matches today with Argentina playing Nigeria, while Iran playing the debutant Bosnia and Herzegovina. Argentina is already through, and even with a draw can seal the top spot. But their draw can knock out Iran, which will expect Nigeria to lose and then win their match at least by 2 goals margin. Nigeria will pray for the opposite. Even a draw for Iran will see them through to next round. It is an interesting group as Nigeria is the only team to have not conceded a goal so far, while Iran is yet to score a goal.

Journey so Far of Group F Teams
The group is the biggest miser of all groups. So far in 4 matches they have seen only 5 goals scored, 3 of them came from Argentina, which has already qualified winning both matches. The debutant Bosnia and Herzegovina is already knocked out.
Special Scenario

    Iran wins and Nigeria lose.

General Scenarios

Argentina just needs a draw to top the group.
Nigeria will not mind a draw too. But a loss can knock them out.
Iran must win to qualify, praying that Nigeria loses against Germany.

History of Group D Teams in First Round

Argentina has been knocked out in first round in their first four World Cup, 1930, 1934, 1958 and 1962.
Bosnia has already lost both the matches of their debut edition.
Iran has never qualified to 2nd round in their last three editions of 1978, 1998 and 2006.
Nigeria reached the 2nd round in their first two editions of 1994 and 1998. Since then in other two editions of 2002 and 2010 they failed.

NewsChoupal Verdict

Argentina’s win will be their best gift to the captain Messi. Nigeria no more represents the strength of 1990s. Argentina will win, probably with Messi gifting himself a goal too. But the tough task for Argentina is the record of Nigeria, which is the only team to have not conceded any goal in the tournament.
That leaves Nigeria leaving on 4 points, 3 clear of Iran. But Iran has the best chance in the group to register a win. Bosnia has lost both matches but has conceded only 3 goals so far. But to qualify they must score at least one goal, if not two. Ironically Iran is the only team in the tournament which is yet to score a goal.
Still, Greece opened its account of scoring goals yesterday in their last match and qualified. The situation is same for Iran, and they should be able to repeat what Greece achieved yesterday.
