Defying forgettable ODI history in Hyderabad and the sufferrings endured in England a month before, Indian team overcame all odds and as an underdogs at home to register their second biggest win by runs against England in ODIs. After scoring 300/7, Indians grabbed all English wickets to win by 126 runs in 36th over.
Captain vs Captain: Dhoni vs Cook
Cook has won a game single-handedly during 2011 India’s tour to England. Today again he was set on the same path scoring 60 runs in just 63 balls. But his wicket on 111 saw remaining 7 wickets fallin with the addition of just 63 runs more. On the other hand, Dhoni came to crease in 28th over when Kohli’s probable six was turned into a magnificent catch by Peterson. After sharing 72 run partnership with Raina and 65 run partnership with Jadeja for 5th and 6th wicket, respectively Dhoni continued his onslaught till the last ball of Indian innings, remaining unbeaten on match winning 70-ball 87 runs and surprising all by taking India’s total to 300, when at one stage it appeared not to cross 250 runs.
India play 50, English Wickets Tumble
This was exactly the opposite of recent English tour by India. At home the Indians scored not only 300 runs batting first, but most importantly were not bowled out, a rare sight for Indian batting in recent times. Ironically, the English batting was completely run over by Indian bowlers, specially spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja.
Indian record
India registered their first victory at Hyderabad ground in four attempts. They had lost previous three matches.
India scored their 8th highest total against England.
India registered their 2nd biggest victory by runs against England.
Indian Spinners Feel at Home
After a forgettable series of England, Indian bowling was the most questionable unit of Indian team. At home, when batsmen scored good total, even Indian bowlers joined the party and forced an English collapse, rare against India in 2011 where they were playing 7th ODI of the year against each other. English batsmen who played Indian bowlers including the spinners, very comfortablt at England, failed to read the spin duo completely.
Pitch Factor or Home Affect!!
The pitch in India saw England crumble, while in England a month back they never crumbled. Still their collapse could not be attributed to pitch, as Indians scored 300 runs on the same pitch. Probably, it was the home conditions for India that did not allow England any contest.
The CSK Gang
When India did not fare well in West Indies and England in the last two series abroad fingers were pointed to the Chennai Super Kings factor. Four of the Indian team players belonged to IPL team CSK. Today Murali Vijay did not play but his other IPL teammates led India to victory. Dhoni and Raina took India to a huge total, while Ashwin’s bowling (alongwith Jadeja) did not let English batsmen settle. Will CSK be hailed now!!
