French Open 2016: Sindhu and Prannoy Lose, Indian Campaign Ends Again in 2nd Round

After Denmark Open 2016 in the last week, for the second consecutive tournament Indian campaign ended in 2nd round. Returning after her historic Silver at Rio Olympics, PV Sindhu failed to breach the 2nd round barrier for her second consecutive tournament. For HS Prannoy, it was 2nd round exit for the second consecutive year at French Open. Other two Indians, Jayaram and Sai had already lost in the first round.

History of French Open and Indian Performances

6th seed Sindhu lost 20-22 17-21 to unseeded Bingjiao He (China) in 41 minutes. She had to fight hard to repeat her Denmark Open first round performance last week where she defeated Bingjiao in the first round. But Bingjiao appeared prepared this time as she registered her 4th career win against PV Sindhu, who has won twice against Bingjiao.

Unseeded HS Prannoy was in the lead in the first game but then could not sustain the pressure from 5th seed Tien Chen Chou (Chinese Taipei) and lost 19-21 16-21 in 42 minutes. HS Prannoy has failed to register a win in their three career meets, including this loss.
