
Shaun Marsh became the 6th Orange Cap holder of IPL 2011. The match 63 between Kings XI and Royal Challengers Bangalore was touted as the fight of Orange Cap between Valthaty and Gayle, separated by just 2 runs. In the end Shaun Marsh left both behind to emerge as new Orange Cap owner of 4th edition of IPL.
Before the match Valthaty was leading scorer with 438 runs in 12 innings, while Gayle with 436 runs in 7 sensational innings was trailing by only 2 runs. Batting first Valthaty could score only 20 runs stretching his tally to 458 runs. Gayle needed only 23 runs runs to retain the Orange Cup.
But in between anchoring the inning with the centurion captain Gilchrist, Shaun Marsch scored devastating 79 runs in just 49 balls with 5 sixes and 7 fours. Adding to his previous tally of 412 runs, he reached 491 runs in 13 innings and became the new Orange Cap holder.
Before Marsh, Orange Cap has travelled to many heads. Starting from Kallis (KKR), it has gone to Valthaty (KXIP), Tendulkar (MI), Virat Kohli (RCB), Sehwag (DD) and then to Chris Gayle (RCB), before Valthaty retained it in the last match of Kings XI against Delhi Daredevils.
