Chris Gayle has been running so fast that none of the stalwards can catch him in the race. He has not only hit maximum centuries, scored maximum runs, but also created records for sixes. Whether it is century or runs or sixes, he appears way ahead of any other batsmen in IPL.
Indian Premier League 5: Schedule and Results
Becoming the first batsman to score a century against DD, he created all sorts of record. DD has never conceded a century in any IPL editions, till they played against RCB. Gayle created many records during the century in a match that was the must-win one for RCB.
Gayle scored his third IPL century, first of the current edition. He already holds the record of maximum T20 century in the World. Warner and Gilchrist have hit two centuries in IPL.
Gayle’s 13 sixes equalled Brendum McCullum’s record of maximum sixes in an IPL inning. He also extended his streak of record sixes in IPL to 127. Remember he is the only player to hit century of sixes. In the process he also became the first player to score half-centuries of sixes in one edition. He has hit 57 sixes by the end of the match against Delhi.
20 sixes is what the second placeholder in IPL 2012 has hit so far, against 57 of Gayle.
At global T20 level with 279 sixes he is way ahead of second placed Pollard with 198 sixes.
With 700+ runs he became the first batsman to cross the mark in an IPL edition. He already has scored 600+ runs in last edition.
Three more batsmen have scored 500+ runs in 2012 so far.
He also created the record of maximum runs in a T20 tournament at global level.
Maximum player of the matches award is also held by him. That is no surprise with such devastating performances. Last year he received record 6 such awards, besides the player of the tournament. This year he already leads the record with 5 Player of the Matches award.
Last year, he single-handedly took RCB to final. This year RCB needs him again to first achieve and then better their feat of just reaching the finals.
