Dhyan Chand Award is the highest award conferred in India for lifetime achievement in sports and games. Aparna Ghosh (Basketball) was the first player to win this award.
About Dhyan Chand Award
Instituted in 2002, named after famous Hockey player Dhyan Chand, the award comprises a statuette, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh (US$7,800). The cash prize was revised from ₹3 lakh (US$4,700) to ₹5 lakh (US$7,800) in 2009.
