History of Tendulkar Vs Warne Rivalry in IPL

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals have clashed on 6 occasions in last three editions of IPL with Mumbai having an upper hand leading with 3-2 margin. But, the clash between Warne and Tendulkar has larger than this match figure. In international arena they were the best foes, let us see what have they done against each other in IPL.

Tendulkar did not play one match in 2008, which MI won, and other match in 2009 was abandoned. Warne has played all the remaining 5 games. Both have earned Man of the Match in 1 match each taking their team to victory.

2010 Edition
1st match: MI won by 4 runs at Mumbai
The high scoring match saw Yusuf Pathan’s century in vain.
They played the second match and opening the batting Tendulkar did not face Warne as he could stay on crease only for 11 balls and was out in 7th over(6.1) on the bowling of Mascarenhas scoring 17 runs with 3 boundaries.

Warne went wicketless giving 29 runs in 3 overs.

2nd Match: MI won by 37 runs at Jaipur
Sachin scored undefeated 89 runs, won player of the match award. Warne again went wicketless with 34/0 in 4 overs.
Warne started bowling in 8th over. Tendulkar opened the inning.
Facing 9 legal deliveries in 3 overs of Warne, Tendulkar smacked 18 runs with 3 boundaries in the third over of Warne and forced Warne not to bowl his last over.

2009 Edition
1st match at Durban abandoned

2nd match at Durban: RR won by 2 runs
The Only time Warne could take Tendulkar’s wicket in IPL, although by then Tendulkar has scored 40 runs in 30 balls with 4 boundaries and a six, becoming the highest scorer of MI in the match. His dismissal turned the low scoring match in RR’s favour.

Warne finished the game with a match winning figure of 24/3 from 4 overs and earned player of the Match award.

Warne started bowling from the 5th over. Tendulkar came at number 5, Inn 3 overs of Warne, Tendulkar faced 9 legal deliveries scored 9 runs with a boundary and was finally adjudged leg before wicket on Warne’s ball.

2008 Edition
1st Match Jaipur: RR won by 5 wickets
Tendulkar could score only 30 runs after playing 34 deliveries and was caught and bowled by Trivedi. Warne went for 30 runs in 4 overs taking the wicket of Uthappa.

Tendulkar faced 5 balls in 2 overs of Warne and scored 5 runs.

2nd Match: Tendulkar did not play, and MI won after restricting RR only for 103.
