Ind vs Eng 2nd Test: Brutal Ishant Shoots Down England

The Lord’s test match started with the debate of Anderson vs Jadeja controversy. The match ended with Jadeja running out Anderson. How ironic could it be!! Historically, India registered only its 2nd test victory at its worst test venue around the globe. Dhoni matched Kapil’s feat. Amidst all, after performing better than all for 3.5 days Bhuvneswar Kumar was outdone by one day of brutal performance by Ishant Sharma. England remained in search of win for the 10th consecutive test match, while after 15 tests since 2011 India finally won an Away test match as they won by 95 runs to take 1-0 lead in the 5-test series.

Statistics of the Day

Ishant Sharma with 7/74 became the best ever Indian bowler of India at Lord’s in 17 tests.
It was also his best bowling performance as he completed his 6th 5 wicket haul in 57 tests to reach 174 test wickets.
Root (66) and Moeen Ali (39) added 101 runs for 5th wicket.
India registered 21st Test win over England in 109 tests.

England has toppled India at rank turners in India, after whitewashing them at home in 2011. Now, India has won a test on a green top pitch. The Cricket world is certainly feeling the impact of global warming as players tour across the world more often.

Session 1
The unbeaten batting pair of Joe Root and Moeen Ali appeared good for the challenge to win the match until the last ball before the lunch when Moeen Ali succumbed to One of the bouncers from Ishant, who kept bouncing the English batsmen throughout the day. Till then both had just completed the century stand for 5th wicket. India could finally had lunch with ease as the resistance finally ended.

Session 2
In the second session Ishant bounced the rest out, or better to say English choked so much by the sight of the defeat that they forgot Anderson and Root has batted for world record partnership in the last test, and if they show resolve at least a draw was possible. Ishant on the other hand was certainly appearing world’s most dangerous bowler, probably taking a leaf out of Steyn’s performance in Sri Lanka.

After lunch India needed to bowl only 12.2 overs more as the remaining 5 wickets fell like nine pins. They could add only 47 runs more.

Analysis
Ishant and Jadeja were troubling the English so well that Dhoni did not need the services of Bhuvi or Shami much. All other bowlers were used only to give some rest to the two star performers of the day. Jadeja could not get his second wicket, as Ishant grabbed 5 of the 6 wickets that fell today, but he kept troubling all the batsmen and aptly the match ended with his marvelous piece of fielding on his own bowling when he ran out Anderson, who wanted to grab a quick single after nudging the ball in no-man’s land.

Overall, from here the road ahead looks very difficult for England. They may have to wait for 3 more tests to win a test match. A draw could be a good motivation for them in the remaining three tests, which looks dismal for now.
