
1970/71 Series saw India registering the first-ever Test and Series victory over West Indies, that too in West Indies. More than that the debutant Gavaskar broke all batting records and India were in the winning position in the remaining four tests also.

Batsmen
with 777 runs in 8 innings, Gavaskar created a new Indian batting record of bilateral series with WI. His 4 centuries equalled the record of Weekes and Sobers for maximum centuries in Ind-WI series. Sardesai with 3 centuries scored 642 runs, another high for Indians, who scored 2 double centuries. Solkar with 205 runs in 6 innings with 3 half-centuries was another impressive Indian with willow.
With 597 runs that included 3 centuries, Sobers emerged as the best batsman, but finished third after Indian duo in aggregate. Kanhai (433) and C Davis (414) also scored good aggregate.
Bowlers
Venkataraghavan with 23 wickets was again the pick of the bowlers. 79 wickets by Indian bowlers had the contribution of 49 wickets from the spin trio of Venkat, Bedi (15) and Prasanna (11).
with 17 wickets Noregia emerged as the best bowler of West Indies. WI bowler could take only 63 wickets in the series.
Captain
Sobers was among the runs and wickets, unlike ageing Wadekar failed with the bat scoring only 151 runs in 7 innings.
Allrounder
Sobers with 12 wickets and 597 runs again emerged as the best allrounder. Solkar with 6 wickets and 205 runs was the best Indian allrounder.
Wicketkeeper
Findlay hit a century and scored 162 runs in 4 innings, while P Krishnamurthy could not contribute much with the bat.
