Ind Vs WI 1996-97 Test Series: Chanderpaul Arrives, Ind Lose

West Indies won the 5-test series 1-0. Indian batting was tested, but survived the remaining four tests. Chanderpaul started his success against India with first Player of the Series performance.

Batsmen
Chanderpaul emerged as the best batsman with 406 runs that included a century and two half-centuries. Lara (392), Opener Williams (263) and Hooper (245) scored above 200 runs.
Sidhu scored a double-century, but Dravid with 360 runs in 7 innings was the best Indian batsman. Tendulkar (289) and Sidhu (276) scored more than 200-runs in the series.

Bowlers
Rose with 21 wickets was the best bowler of the series. WI bowlers took 70 wickets in the series.
58 wickets were taken by Indian bowlers and Kumble with 19 wickets was the leading wicket taker.

Captains
Lara scored 392 runs. Tendulkar scored 289 runs in 6 innings.

Wicketkeepers
Mongia could score only 149 runs in 5 innings with a half-century. Murray could score only 24 runs in 3 innings.

Allrounder
Hooper emerged again as the best allrounder with 245 runs and 6 wickets.
