5 event, 5 winners from different countries. India Open Super Series 2017 has achieved the rare results. Doubles will see teams from same countries fighting for the title ensuring 3 different nations winning a title each. Singles have guaranteed a winner from different nations too. While Women Singles will have a winner from India or Spain, recreating Olympics finale, Men’s Singles will see first time title for a new nation whether consecutive third time finalist 3rd seed Victor Axelsen wins or 7th seed Tien Chen wins. Among the finalist, defending champions have reached the finals again in Mixed Doubles (Lu/Huang) and Men’s Doubles (Marcus/Kevin). Today, the top seeds from Korea were knocked out in Women’s Doubles. Sindhu has reached her fourth final in Super Series. Sindhu played a memorable match winning 7th tie against 2nd seed Korean Hyun Sung. She won the first set, but Sung bounced back in second set. In the third set, Sindhu played with full aggression to seal the spot in final of her third Super Series.
Sindhu vs Marin
Sindhu trails Marin 3-5 in 8 international matches. She won their last match at group stage of Dubai World Superseries Finals played after Olympic final. In 2017, they met at PBL where Marin won.
In Mixed Doubles the top 2 seeds have reached the final, both from China, while in Men’s Doubles Indonesian pairs will decide the winner. In Men’s and Women’s Singles none of these three nations have any finalist. Sindhu and Carolina Marina both eye first India Open Super Series title. While Marin could be the second European to win this title, Viktor Axelsen is aiming to be the first European to win India Open Super series. Up against him is Tien Chen who aspires to be the first from Chinese Taipei to grab the title. Sunday is surely going to be an exciting finale for India Open 2017.
