India@CWG18 Day 6 Report: 1st Gold for Heena, 1st Medal for Para-athlete, Boxing Assures 5 Medals

Day 6 continued the trend of minimum two medals. But, Boxing assured that minimum 5 more medals are assured adding to upcoming one from Mary Kom. Multiple first for India at CWG. Heena Sidhu won her first Gold while Sachin Chaudhary became the firt Indian para-athlete to win a medal at Commonwealth Games. Badminton and Squash saw 1st round wins, while both teams of Hockey entered the semifinals. India remained at third rank with 11 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze medals. Check complete results.

Heena Sidhu, one of India’s most successful Women Shooter, finished her drought at Commonwealth Games and created new Commonwealth Games record to grab Gold medal. She has earlier won a Silver on Day 1 of shooting.


Sachin Chaudhary became the firt Indian para-athlete to win a medal in Weightlifting, called as Powerlifting. Overall, Weightlifters signed off with 10 medals. He created history by being the first para-athlete from India to win Commonwealth Games medal. He won a Bronze in Men’s Heavyweight event of Powerlifting.

5 Men pugilists boxed their way to assure a medal each winning their respective quarterfinals. With Mary Kom already reaching the semifinals, Boxing has assured 6 medals in coming days.

Men’s Hockey team and Women’s Hockey team played a thriller to win their respective group matches and seal a place in the semifinals. Men’s Hockey team won 2-1 against Malaysia while Women’s Hockey team won by a solitary goal against South Africa.


Track athletes turned impressive. 18-year old Hima Das became the first women from India to reach the final in Commonwealth Games 2018. She will be running the race for medal tomorrow. Muhammed Anas Yahiya failed to win a medal but finished close fourth breaking the national record.

Squash and Badminton

4 matches were played by Indian Squash doubles teams and they won all. Badminton mixed doubles team of Satwik and Ashwini started with a win in Round of 64.
