Becoming the only Indian shooter to win 3 Gold medals in World Cup events, Jitu Rai also gifted India a rare duo moment where Indians won Gold and Silver medal in the same event at a World Cup Championship. Jitu had won a bronze yesterday, and with today’s Gold he has won the maximum 8 of the 62 medals Indians have won at World Cup events since 1986. Amanpreet Singh won the silver medal behind Jitu in the Men’s 50m Pistol event on March 1, 2017 at New Delhi. With this the hosts have jumped to 4th position in medal tally.
Before today’s exceptional effort by the duo, Indians had won a Silver and two bronze as Pooja Ghatkar had won Bronze and Ankur Mittal won Silver medal.
