The second Super Saturday had three biggest teams of IPL are taking field to get into a winning momentum. Also with them was the minnow Pune Warrios, who was also desperate not to lose the flavor of win that it achieved in the last match after 11 consecutive losses. The first match at Wankhede saw how Sachin and MI were prepared for Rahul Sharma and Warriors threat as they decimated them easily by 41 runs.

Background
While Mumbai Indians has the legends, big stalwarts of international level and Indian national Cricket, Pune Warriors has nobody except Yuvraj and Ross Taylor to claim a famous line up. Still in the context of T20, their young talented players have made them one of the top four teams in the current IPL on paper. Otherwise also against Mumbai Indians they have not only one a match comfortably defending a very low total, but even in their three losses Warriors have kept MI on toes. So much so that last match was won by only 1 run.
MIs Batting
Electing to bat MI decided to give the legends another match as openers. The improvement was visible as they added 54 runs in 7.1 overs with Sachin killing the demon of Rahul Sharma and on the way hitting 29-ball 44 runs with 7 boundaries (that included 4 consecutive boundaries of Dinda’s first 4 balls in third over) and a six of Rahul Sharma. Ponting still struggled going first at 14 runs (17 balls, 2 boundaries. Rahul Sharma’s first ball had Ponting LBW, but umpire thought otherwise. He also had the opportunity of getting Tendulkar’s wicket again, but Yuvraj Singh not only dropped a dolly but also let it go somehow for a boundary which was promptly followed by a six from Sachin. But Sachin survived only for an over more as Finch had him caught of Marsh on boundary in 8th over.
Karthik continued his form of the life as he added 55 runs with Rohit Sharma in 6.5 overs. With his 29-ball 41 runs (4 boundaries and a six) he snatched the Orange Cap from Virat Kohli. After 15.1 overs MI were 115/3 when Karthik fell to Marsh, but after that Rohit Sharma (32-ball 62 runs, 3 boundaries, 5 sixes) and Pollard 4-ball 19 runs, 1 boundary and a six) added unbeaten 68 runs in remainign 4.9 overs to take them to 183/3.
Dinda equalled the IPL record of worst bowling performance with 63/0. Surprisingly despite being milked badly in every over, Captain Mathews asked him to bowl his quota in 3 spells, that included the last over of the innings too. It was surprising move as B Kumar (16/0 in 2 overs), Yuvraj (13/1 in 2 overs) could have been better option for at least one over each more. Rahul Sharma (27/0) was again good and was unlucky twice as he could have had the wickets of Ponting and Tendulkar both. Umpire deprived him of Ponting’s clear lbw, while Yuvraj dropped a dolly of Tendulkar. Even part-timer Finch came good giving only 11 for the wicket of Tendulkar in 2 overs.
Mathews had a lot of question to answer on the use of his bowlers.
Warriors Succumb
Their chase with Finch going for a golden duck, as he became the 4th instance of a batsmen being out on first ball of the match in current IPL. Johnson not only bowled him, but also bowled Uthappa (7 runs in 9 balls) in his next over. In between Uthappa has got Ross Taylor (4 runs) run out in the 2nd over. Warriors were 3/13 in 2.3 overs. Ex-MI batsman Suman played a cameo of 15-ball 23 runs with 5 boundaries but his wicket in 6th over took them to 4/38. Yuvraj and Captain Mathews took them to 71 in 10th over whe Yuvraj went on 16-ball 24 runs (a boundary and 2 sixes) and then struggling Mathews (19 run, 18 balls with a six) went in 13th over. Mitch Marsh fought with 26-ball 38 runs with 2 boundaries and 2 sixes, but million-dollar buy Abhishek Nayar (6 runs in 7 balls) failed again. B Kumar (6*) and Rahul Sharma (10*) saw the last ball as Warriors scored 142/8 to lose by 41 runs.
For MI, Johnson led with 33/3. Ojha (20/1 in 2 overs), Harbhajan (20/1 in 3 overs), Malinga (22/1 in his quota), Pollard (19/1 in 3 overs) were among the wickets.
