Chennai Super Kings hosts 2012 Kolkata Knight Riders at home with an eye on another step towards the knockout which has always belonged to them in the last 5 editions. KKR on the other hand is struggling to stay alive and seek the repeat of their 2012 final performance to get back to winning ways. Yet, considering that Chennai pitch is no more supporting only the spinners, and KKRs big guns are not firing, CSK may continue their winning run.

Overall Performances
CSK has reached 4 finals in the 5 IPL tournaments, winning twice and losing twice, once each to Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR were the last team to start competitive race for trophy as in the first three editions they were the only team to have never entered the knockouts. With changes in their team and captain they reached the semifinal in 2011 and won the tournament in 2012.
Overall they have 39 wins and 41 losses, with 3 No results, one each against DD, CSK and Deccan Chargers. CSK has 53 wins, 35 losses, and two no results, one each against KKR and RCB.
Team Comparison
Based on squad strength both have nothing to choose between them. Both have played 8 matches each in the competion. The results indicate KKR is struggling as their player performances is below par. Gambhir, Morgan, Narine and now Kallis are firing. But the teamwork is missing. Everywhere there is improvement required. Bisla, Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary, Indian contingent and bowlers are too many weak areas for a team trying to reach third consecutive knockout. Nobody knows why Gambhir is still not bringing Brendum McCullum although they need good and quick start on top.
Chennai Super Kings have 6 wins, still their team is not performing as a unit. They have lost when Michael Hussey and Dhoni fail. The strong middle order is more failure than successful. Ashwin has been the key in bowling, Mohit Sharma appears a good find. But the bowling unit is not clicking.
Verdict
Unless KKR has a surprise package to provide with some team change and new strategy, CSK would continue the winning run.
