Royal Challengers Bangalore versus Mumbai Indians match is certainly the first high-voltage match of the IPL 2014 as both the teams are equally strong on paper. RCB has the best 4 T20 players in the team, while MI has its own set of highly dangerous players, lesser in numbers though in batting, but then they have three of the top 10 successful bowlers of IPL and then of course the most complete T20 allround player in Pollard. Based on the high-scoring chances during a day match as it happened during Kings XI chase yesterday, the stronger batting team RCB have the slight edge as both teams go for their second matches of the seventh edition.
Past Results of 2014
Mumbai Indians were shocked by the 2012 champions Kolkata Knight Riders as they lost comprehensively. On the other hand Royal Challengers Bangalore registered a smooth win against the weak Delhi Daredevils team.

Overall Performances
With 56 wins and 40 losses (1 no result) MI is the second best team of IPL after CSK in terms of performance. In addition they are also the defending champions, besides having won the CLT20 once. RCB is yet to win any tournament, despite being one of the most promising team since the arrival of Gayle. RCB has cleared its backlog of more losses from first three editions and halfway to the 6th edition they have got the boost in winning rate with 49 wins and 45 losses (2 No result). RCBs best in CLT20 is finishing of Runners up once.
RCB has reached the final twice (2009 and 2011), MI has reached the final twice (2010 and 2013). RCB has reached the semifinal thrice from 2009-11, while MI has reached the semifinal consecutively from 2010-13.
Verdict
In the past both the teams have fought a close battle during the tournament. Except 2011, in all other editions RCB won the first match and MI won the second match. But in 2013, while RCB registered a narrow win, MI had a commanding win. In 2014, despite revamping of teams, both these teams have kept their core players. While RCB has added Yuvraj Singh, MI has added Anderson. MI has a balanced side, but their bowlers could not control Kallis and Manish Pandey, and batsmen failed together. RCB cannot be clearly judged by their allround successful performance against the weak DD, still if one has to talk about the winner, RCB has the edge in this match.
