Kallis has won 7 of them till 2012. He is the joint fourth highest Player of the Match award winner in IPL. Gayle leads with 13, Yusuf Pathan has 12, Sehwag has 9, while Shaun Marsh, Sachin Tendulkar and Gambhir share the record with Kallis.
After a poor start in 2008, he earned 2 of them in 2009, 3 in 2010 (with RCB), 1 each in 2011 and 2012 with KKR. Kallis earned a hattrick of MoMs in 2010.
Dravid earned only one MoM till 2012 when in 2009 he scored 66 in the winning cause, ironically against RR.

Both have played the opening match of their teams. While Kallis could contribute only 23 runs in the first match against Delhi Daredevils, Dravid captaining the side scored a half-century against the same opponent. Dravid also received his only 2nd Player of the Match award in his 6th year.

Earlier he has received the only MOM in 2009, ironically against Rajasthan Royals for hitting 66 runs in the winning cause.

Overall the two giants are refusing to die out of contest. While Kallis is eying 2015 World Cup for South Africa and hence IPL would surely be benefited with his allround performance, Dravid appears to grow younger in the last two years. Even in 2013 he has started with a bang winning the MOM and captaining his side to a win.

  1. Respect for Dravid grew further specially after his this comment: With KKR strong batting line up (Indian trio of Gambhir, Tiwary and Pathan) it would have been useless to go for spin. Throw pace on them.
That is what he did, probably a rare match where no spinner was used by a team in an IPL match that too in India!! And everyone can c how they defended the low score.
This is an example of best captaincy for me.
