RIO 2016: Biggest Indian Table Tennis Fails at First Hurdle

Indian Table Tennis sent its biggest ever team of 4 paddlers for Men’s and Women’s Singles events starting from August 6. Achanta played his third Olympics after 2004 and 2008, while Soumyajit represented India in second consecutive Olympics. Mouma Das represented India in her second Olympics, after 12 years. Experience, youth did not make any difference as all four lost in the first round with Manika Batra being the most impressive even in loss.

History
In 2012 Olympics, Soumyajit Ghosh reached 2nd round of Men’s singles, while Ankita Das lost in Round 1 of Women’s singles.

In the team Soumyajit Ghosh is the highest ranked Indian player. He was ranked 68 in July 2016.
