When Delhi Daredevils won the toss in their first match of the league against Rajasthan Royals, Sehwag made the intention clear saying around 150 is the target for safety. What followed was unbelievable as Sehwag left his team worried!! Warner and Venu took DD to respectable score, but consistent middle order took Royals to victory.
Delhi Daredevils Batted First
Sehwag started the inning with his trademark hit to boundary of Tait. But Tait took his revenge next ball. In followed Finch and after some good shots he also perished. Chand and Naman Ojha were sent back to pavillion as soon as Warne started to bowl his first over. With 4 wickets gone for just 36 runs, the below 100 score scenario was again visible. Rajasthan Royals bowlers rocked the Delhi Daredevils batsmen.
In came Venugopal Rao and started for a big partnership with Warner, who was somehow trying to stick on crease till then. With Venugopal’s aggression, Warner also got inspired and confident. Soon in 10 overs they had a partnership of 83 runs. Rajasthan bowlers were forced to be on backfoot, with Venugopal hitting four sixes and Warner also hitting one. Both completed well deserved half centuries.
Rajasthan Royals Chased Easily
Dinda provided the early breakthrough but consistent effort from Dravid, Botha, Menaria and later Ross Taylor took Royals to the target with 9 balls to spare. Royals registered second emphatic victory. Delhi sunk to another brutal defeat.
Warne the Key
In the battle between Warne and Sehwag, Warne emerged not only victorious as captain but was also adjudged the player of the match for his economic spell where he took 2 wickets in his first over and put Delhi on backfoot.
