The 21 year old from Kidambi joined Badminton by force not choice. His brother Nanda Gopal was training under Pullela Gopichand. His parents requested the Gopichand to train him too as they did not know how to help him create a future. Pullela obliged and found Kidambi good for Singles. Rest is history as after being the first Indian Male to win an International Open Series, now he is the first Indian Male Badminton player to enter year-ending ranking based BWF Super Series Masters Tournament.
Past Winners of Badminton Super Series Masters Final
Born on 7th February 1993 at Guntur, Hyderabad, Srikanth is ranked 8th in the Badminton Federation ranking and hence qualifies for the 7th edition of the tournament where Saina has played regularly and reached the final once, while V Diju and Jwala Gutta emerged as the first finalists from India in 2009.
The guy who once fought brain fever and was in a critical condition some time back started training at Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad from 2008-09. First he was trained for doubles and he participated also in Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles events. He won international medals too in both the events in 2011.
But Gopichand, who has produced many gems for India, identified that Srikanth has better future in Singles. Soon in 2012 he won the first International title in Men’s Singles. 2014 has been a defining year for him. He has defeated the great Lin Dan in front of Chinese supporters at China to grab first Super Series trophy of India in Men’s Singles.
