Defeating Australia would not be so challenging now for Indians, as it used to be some years before. While the Indians have developed themselves into a strong team, Aussies have been moving downwards. Indian rank is rising, Aussies rank is losing the master players. Ricky Ponting could be another one to go soon.

Decaying Ponting
Ponting would be probably playing the most crucial match in a decade. The match result will impact his position in Australia and Australian team. His captaincy has started showing scratches here and there. His temperament does not reflect the old confident Ponting. With his captaincy at stake and form in deep well, he at least needs to take Australia to the final to show he is still valuable as Captain.

Shining Dhoni
Dhoni, the Indian captain, on the other hand is the ideal captain a team needs. He has success beckoning him at every step and under him Indian team has grown confident with every match. His cool headed impression might have faded off late, still he is one of the most shrewd captain around. He can show wonders even when his team is dead deep in danger of losing.

Quarter-Final Match
Yet, the quarter-final match between Australia and India cannot be judged by the ink on paper. Their performance in the current World Cup has been far from being the best. Both teams have showed signs of weakness. India has the best batting line-up, yet it has lost one match and tied one and in fact critics feel it has not gained any emphatic win. Australia has the best bowling unit, yet Pakistan swallowed them without much fuss. H Patel of Kenya made them look like a club-class bowling side.

Kenyan Opener Patel vs Aussie Bowling
If India picks the cue from H Patel, Indian batsmen can start attacking from the word go. They do not need any inspiration for that though. Sehwag attacks all always, Aussies or any other team. Others could also take cue and do not play defensive game to pass the overs of certain bowlers. If they could mix their skills with sensibility, Aussies players might be seen running to the ropes through out the inning.

Pakistani Bowlers Vs Aussie Batting
Even Pakistan showed how using the right bowling combination may help in defeating the Australians. Aussies did not take any chance against their lead bowler Afridi. He could get only one wicket. But, other spinners did not let the Aussie batsmen breath easy. Ultimately Umar Gul and others bowled out the Aussies to a below-par total.

India can do the same with their bowlers. If Harbhajan is played with respect, Yuvraj and Ashwin led by the dangerous Zaheer can rip the Australian innings.

The Winning Formulae

The forumula is simple to defeat the Australians. Do What Kenayn opener Patel and Afridi’s bowler did to the Australian bowlers and batsmen, respectively and emerge clear winner. India has the team to taste victory, they just need to check their over-confidence.
