US Open 2010 Men’s Doubles Final: Inexperience defeats Indo-Pak Pair

New York, USA: The Men’s Doubles final was played between the pair of top seeds Bob Bryan & Mike Bryan (USA) and 16th seed Bopanna (Ind) and Qureshi (Pak). The American Bryan Brothers won the final in straight sets by 7-6, 7-6.

The match was decided in two sets only, although it had the potential of running into the 3rd set. Both the teams did not lose a set. The 16th seed appeared perfect match for the top seed Bryan brothers, who have already won many Grand Slams doubles championships.

The Indo-Pak pair played their first-ever Grand Slam final. The inexperience costed them the match. Both the teams appeared equal. Yet, when it came to tie-breaks in both the sets, due to inexperience the nerves got the Indo-Pak pair down and ultimately costed them the match.

In the first set, even in tie-break they were leading 3-1. Then they lost the chance of going up by 4-1. From there on they lost concentration and Bryan brothers won the set in tie-break.

The 2nd set again saw same contest, with none able to break the serve. With score reading 6-6 again, Bryan brothers easily won the tie-break and the match.

The match announced the arrival of new samaritans of Men’s Doubles. Bopanna and Qureshi, together, can rule the Doubles world soon. They will be their biggest enemy, if they follow the pattern of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, who ruled together and then split to choose new partners and since then have performed well but have never been able to rule the Doubles world.
