Pune in Cricket Indian Premier League has changed owners but failed to provide respectable performance. Hockey India League has its own Pune in Mumbai, which has changed owners still remains the only team that has failed to reach the semifinals in last 4 editions. Ranchi, on the other hand has no impact of change of owners. It has won the title twice, once with each owner. Will 2017 HIL edition change fortunes? Can Dabang Mumbai finally reach at least the semifinals of Hockey Indian League 2017?
Mumbai will have the support at Home as they and Ranchi Rays play the first game of the HIL 2017 at Mumbai. They finished 5th, above Uttar Pradesh Wizards, in 2016 HIL edition, winning 4 matches. Ranchi Rays team on the other hand finished 4th despite being the group topper with 7 wins.
In the last edition, Mumbai won the first match 7-5 at home, in the high scoring game but lost the Away game 0-1.
In 2015, when both the teams played first time, and Ranchi Rays became the champion, Ranchi Rays won 2-1 at Mumbai and game at Ranchi ended in 2-2 draw.
Dabang finished last in the group winning just one match, while Ranchi won 6 of the 10 matches at group stage.
In 2015, Ranchi has scored 25 goals and conceded 21. In 2016, Ranchi scored 43 goals and conceded 35.
Mumbai Magicians were replaced by Dabang Mumbai, whose owner has a PWL team too with the name Dabang. Ranchi Rays on the other hand replaced the Ranchi Rhinos, the very popular team of HIL which won the inaugral edition.
