Women’s Hockey World Cup 2010: India Finishes 9th

Roasario, Argentina: Indian women played their final match against South Africa in the 9th-10th place classification match and emerged winner to finish 9th in the tournament.

Earlier Netherlands and host, Argentina have qualified for the final. Argentina defeated Germany 2-1, while Netherlands defeated England on penalty. Spain finished at the bottom after Japan defeated them in classification match for 11-12th place.

Indian women could win only 2 matches in the tournament. They registered their other win against Japan (which finished 11th) in the Group Stage. Rani Rampal emerged as the most successful Indian player scoring 7 goals in 6 matches.
