Day 1 of 11th World Cup saw the two hosts playing the inaugural matches. As expected both trounced their respective opponents scoring 300+ runs and then letting their bowlers feast. Losers had some memories too. Thirimanne scored half-century on World Cup debut, while Finn grabbed first hattrick for England. Amidst convincing losses, the day would be more remembered for the unbeaten 98 runs of James Taylor though.

Quick half-centuries from Brendum McCullum and Corey Anderson led New Zealand to big score, while century from Finch and half-century from Maxwell made England concede their biggest total in a World Cup match.
Even Williamson and Bailey scored a half-century each. But the biggest knock of the day came from James Taylor. Unlike others, he batted all alone, had no support from team and was chasing the high total. He was left stranded dramatically on 98 runs as he ran short of partners.
