After 5 matches of World Cup, finally bowlers could manage to show their presence as a low scoring game saw no 300+ score. ICC must be disappointed although New Zealand did score at a run rate touching 6 runs an over. At Dunedin, first New Zealand bowlers ruled and then Scotland’s bowler almost won them the match. Unfortunately they had only 142 to save and Kiwis could win by 3 wickets.

Boult’s twin strike in 2nd over of the innings had MacLeod and Gardener back to pavillion on ducks. 5th over of the innings from Southee saw another twin strike as Coetzer (1) and Captain Mommsen (0) returned leaving Scotland in tatters at 12/4.
Machan (56) and Berrington (50) had the biggest partnership of the match having played 23.3 overs to add 97 runs for 5th wicket. Anderson (3/18 in 5 overs) first sent both back in consecutive overs and then wicketkeeper Cross (14) in 34th over as Scotland were again in trouble at 129/7. In the next over, showstealer of the day Vettori took charge grabbing Taylor (4), and then Haq (0) and Wardlaw (0) on consecutive balls of his next over. Only Milne (0/32 in 7 overs) and Elliott (0/11 in 2 overs) could not join the party.
Kiwis Struggle, But Win
New Zealand batsmen were in rush. They did reach the target in 25 overs. But not before a scare of defeat. Guptill (17), McCullum were the first two to be sent by Wardllaw as Kiwis scored 48/2 in 7 overs. Warlaw later also grabbed Elliott (29). Ross Taylor (9) failed again falling to Haq (1/21 in 4 overs). Williamson (38) became the first victim of Davey, who later on added first match’s MOM Anderson (11) and then Ronchi (12). With fall of quick wickets towards the end New Zealand were in trouble at 137/7. But as they needed only 6 more runs to win, Vettori (8*) and Milne (1*) took them through in 24.5 overs.
Scotland used only 4 bowlers and only Taylor (0/27 in 4 overs) was unsuccessful. New Zealand reached the top of the Points Tally in Group A with second consecutive win.
